For a weekend, we had to get up and moving a little earlier than usual – but look who wasn’t complaining:
We spent Saturday morning at the last Farmer’s Market in Salt Lake for the season. I had signed up to volunteer at the Pumpkin Festival which is a booth the market sponsors every year for halloween. They have a bazillion little pumpkins set out and lots of fun things to decorate with. I manned the both from 10-noon and helped families and kids decorate their pumpkins. It was really fun and some of those kids came up with the craziest ideas.

Mack hung out for a bit and decorated his fair share two. After my duty was over, we managed to snag some delicious apples, a collection of chevre, and some local honey – all the things on my list!
[I promise that I helped more kids than just my own son

Promise.
We had a couple stops to make on the way home, one of which was to see “what the big deal was.” On our way home every day, we drive through a canyon and without fail, there is always a collection of cars and people at the mouth of the canyon. There have been times that we’ve driven home at midnight or later and there have still been people there. Today was our day to see what was up.
Hot springs! Kind of cool – a little gross.
Apparently there are naked parties – hence all those cars parked there at night.
And we thought Utah was going to be conservative
I guess that I’m glad we ventured down there at a time when there was no one else there. That could have been awkward.
Really awkward.
Back at home, it was time to get ready for the UW game! Nick and I decided that even though we were on our own for this game it would be fun to do a food and drinks theme as if we were having friends over.
Nick picked out several fancy schmancy beers and I made pita/hummus.
Even game day can be healthier: pita pockets with hummus, feta, cukes, tomatoes, and kalmata olives (olives were appreciated by me alone).
We sampled a couple good beers and then decided to take it easy. I really liked the Brown Rice Ale – very unique and even though it had a strong taste, it finished clean and light.
We’ll be getting this in the future for sure. My least favorite was the Porter – very syrupy and super thick. Porters are a little hit or miss for me.
The game was pretty bad. Luckily we had a good distraction when our neighbor came over to borrow some vanilla extract – and returned with these bad boys!
Pumpkin bars! It was a lot like carrot cake with the cream cheese frosting – so, so good! I’m going to have to get the recipe from her and share it with you all.
This little guy doesn’t care who wins the game so long as somebody keeps him laughin’
Do you like doing tastings? Wine, beer?? Pairings??
