The New Craigslist

Holy beans that was a great Memorial Weekend! I’ll fill you in on all our adventures as the week continues on but first – a biking update!

Both Nick and I had to work a little later than usual on Friday (by the time I rode the train home from work I was one of about ten people left commuting) so we didn’t get that early start to the weekend like most everyone else. As soon as I hopped off the train, Nick picked me up and we hit the trail with the kiddos. We had all kinds of new stuff to try out on this trail run – a new bike and a new trailer!

Nick is still pretty uncertain about what bike he wants to get and we have a bit of research to do before committing to such a big purchase. In the meantime, I found two matching bikes on ksl.com (sort of like Craigslist but apparently no one in Utah uses CL and KSL is the “whats up” around these parts). Anyway, I found two bikes that were a husband and wives matching set and were no longer getting any use. The set was listed for $150 which we thought was quite the steal and that the deal was too good to be true but the pictures showed some promise and I set up a meeting.

As with all Craigslist-esque purchases, I was a little leery about having to go and meet with the people selling the bikes but they met me right at the train station and let me test ride both bikes and everything checked out. Fifteen minutes later, we were the proud owners of two new bikes! Sweet!

I also bought a bike trailer for the kids to ride in while we’re out on longer rides and this trail ride was our first time testing it out. It is absolutely fantastic – if you’re in the market for a bike trailer I highly recommend this one – the InStep Take 2 Double Bicycle Trailer -  which we purchased through Amazon.

It has a much better harness system than most other ones we looked at, holding both our almost one year old Spencer and our almost five year old Mackenzie very comfortably and securely. It also easily folds down so you could cart it around in the trunk of your car.

We bought the Take 2 version, which holds two kids but there is also a nice single child version of the same trailer. Since that ride on Friday we’ve used it one more time – two rides and I’m already in love with the thing! Another bonus, I order this trailer online on a Sunday night and it arrived via UPS Tuesday afternoon – pretty impressive.

Is it just me, or do you love getting packages in the mail?? Even if I ordered it myself and I know what’s coming, I still get really excited when there are packages waiting at the front door :)

Anyway, our test run of the new bike (I’m still riding my regular bike, Nick is the one riding the new bike – more on this later….) and the new trailer was wonderful. We discovered that our riverfront trail has a punch through connection where we usually turn around and we ended up adding another ten miles to our ride – 16 miles on a Friday night? Woohhee that makes me happy.

Over the weekend, we also greeted some very special guests, went to one of the only man made things you can see from space (any guesses?), hiked up to an ancient ocean and did a little biking as well. Like I said, I have a lot to update y’all on and will do so through out the week.

In the meantime, I’m off to work.

What were you up to over the holiday weekend?

P.S. Kids are out of school now. Doesn’t that seem crazy early?! When I was in school, we got out mid-June. The last day for the kids in our neighborhood was Friday. Lucky for me, preschool runs all summer long so Mack is still doing his usual routine. I have to admit I’m already not looking forward to having kids home for the summer. Ha! Summer camps will be my saving grace :)

P.P.S. I really need to update my Fit Mama page! I’m over a month behind – good thing I at least write my work outs down or there’s no way I’d remember what I did over the last four weeks.
