As you well know, June has arrived! June has become the unofficial start of summer around these parts and our whole family seems to have caught the June Bug.
June Bug symptoms include:
- An intense desire to be outdoors
- Restlessness and inability to stay seated, not to be confused with restless leg syndrome, there is no pain
- Ants in your pants
- A sudden aversion to vehicular transportation
- An insatiable appetite for trail mix
Treatments* include:
- A natural dose of Vitamin D, available in prescription form at various locations such as your local swimming hole, marked and unmarked trailheads; your own back yard may be used as a generic substitution.
- Long bike rides
- Trail hikes
- Canoe rides
- Anything but laundry
*Warning: avoid snakes at all costs – we’ve had far too many run-ins lately
*How we coped with and treated our symptoms this past weekend*
Friday
Lake Swim at Pineview (my first training/practice swim in open water)
Not too shabby of a swimming hole eh?
Ogden Valley Farmer’s Market – Eden 1st market of the season! We bought new goat’s milk soap, some local honey and some limeade.
Smith & Edwards (the craziest store I’ve ever been to) Like my new hiking shorts and shoes?
1st Trail Ride and Around the Lake (16 mile bike ride!)
Sunday
Maiden Voyage in our canoe!

Even the grandpa’s got to take the canoe out!
(see the canoe in the background? Mack is out there with his grandpas)
Grilled Bison (which we picked up from Maddox)
And now it is Monday. As much as I dread the return to the office on Mondays I have to admit that today is a day worth getting excited over. My swim coaching starts tonight (coaching sounds so much more legit than “swimming lessons” but alas, lessons is the reality). I’m super excited to have someone watch my stroke and help me improve my breathing technique. I am getting more and more confident in the water but I still have quite a ways to go before I feel really CONFIDENT out there.
ALSO, Wednesday is the last day of my job at the architecture firm! Woohee baby, I can hardly wait.
THEN, on Thursday I’m hitting the road with the one and only Mr. Nicholas who has planned a fun trip for us, the destination of which remains a secret and a mystery to me. All I know is it’s time away just the two of us and that is something I can get excited about.
What were y’all up to this weekend?
*Coming up next, I’ll be sharing my training schedule for my triathlon. I am on week two of official training and things are still fairly easy. 16 weeks and counting….
And I’ll leave you with this: my dad hiked up the ridge behind our house with Muffin Dog. Best picture ever
