In the words of the Bloggess, “this is not a real post” this is just me staying up way too late last night and then writing random gobble-di-gook.
You see, ever since moving to Utah I’ve noticed that typical pronunciation guidelines don’t fit the bill here.
(I tried to find a funny cartoon for “Utah Pronunciation” or “Utah Accent” – this is the photo Google image search provided. All I can really say is “wow.”)
Utah Pronunciation Guide
Bountiful = bow-nif-ul (if you make any sort of “t” sound you immediately give yourself away as an newcomer)
Hurricane = her-eh-kin
Point of the Mountain = poy-na-the-mow-nan
Toelle = two-ill-ah
Bingham = bing-um
Bridger = brr-dger
And finally,
Eden = o-p-eye-n-view
Utahns Speak Washintonian
Weyerhaeuser = wire-house-air
Everett = Ever-t
Tacoma = taco-ma
Puget Sound = o-schen
Puyallup = poo-you’ll-uhp
Do people say things funny where you live?
Are there city names that out-of-towners frequently mispronounce?
Have anything you want to add to this list?

haha.. this is hilarious! i’m from bowniful so i can totally relate to the first one. and lay-un instead of layton. also, people in utah say “squoze” which isn’t even a word.
What the heck? Squoze??
And I really should have included lay-un!
I can’t stand the way they say “Moun-ehn” for Mountain. And I also CAN NOT STAND IT when they come here to Nashville to visit and tell me all about my accent… or ask me to speak Tennessee. What the heck? I speak the same dang English you do… besides the fact that there is no L in BOTH. Also, even if I do have an accent else where in the world… here I am right at home… So you’re the one the with the accent Muchacho!
Haha, oh this made my day! You can’t forget using ‘fer’ instead of ‘for’ too!
