Mason Jars

I’ve started using mason jars for everything: leftovers, food storage, packing lunch to work. I love the aesthetic of a mason jar. Everything tastes better this way.

I’m storing beans in jars.

Anasazi Beans I’m packing milk for cereal in a jar.

Milk for Cereal I’m taking leftovers to work in a jar.

I find this to be a brilliant solution to the tupperware nonsense. The lids that don’t fit, when nothing is the right size, the oily residue that gets left behind, the warping that occurs in the dish washer. With a glass mason jar I don’t worry about any of this. And while I love my glass storage bowls from Crate and Barrel – the price is just a bit unjustifiable when mason jars work just as well.

It is kind of a funny thing to post about but I really am in love with how well the jars are working for me.

And now, a wonderful recipe for soup!

Yakisoba Soup

Print the recipe card here. Bonus: there are two cards on that sheet so you can share the recipe with a friend! (Shameless self-promoting? Or, random act of kindness. You decide)

This soup is chalk full of good things for you – we’ve all heard the wives tales about chicken broth being good for all that ailes you…. but here’s a few other good things to love:

Ginger: Ginger helps with digestion and also eases upset stomachs. It was ginger tea that got me through a winter of not drinking coffee. Ginger is also known for relieving migraines and is thought to be a cancer preventor as well as treatment option. Read more here.

Kale: Packed with antioxidants, kale is one of the most nutrient dense foods we can eat. It is loaded with iron, fiber, vitamin A, vitamin C and calcium. Read more here.

Swiss Chard: Chard has tons of magnesium (which helps your body use calcium efficiently), fiber and also vitamins A and C. Read more here.

Happy eating!
