Weekend Recap

Sometime last year I made a promise to keep weekends free for family – which is why I do not blog over Saturday and Sunday. A few special posts get “posted” on Saturdays (written in advance) but I don’t check in on what we’re up to, the adventures, the workouts, the food – until Monday. That being said, I always kind of feel like I’m playing catch up with you all. There are gads and gads of places you can find “advice for bloggers” and one of the top things is to post new content daily – more so if possible. In fact, some of the most successful blogs I read are posting three times a day. Well friends, I love this space and I love connecting with all of you, but I am simply not willing to take any more of my family time away for the sake of blogging.

So the game of catch up we shall play ;)

Friday after work, Nick and I joined Planet Fitness. It is something we have talked about doing over the past year but when we lived in Eden it just wasn’t convenient to our location and it didn’t make sense. When we moved into the city we talked about it again but we had so many outdoor activities going on, a gym still wasn’t necessary. Now, in the banked up snow and the freezing temps, it makes so much sense. We joined for $10 down and $10 a month. There are no contracts and we can end it any time. It only took about ten minutes to join and we immediately put in our first Planet Fitness workout – a short run and the first half of their 30 minute circuit. I was really impressed with the gym and I can’t wait to share with you all a bit more of the Planet Fitness story.

Saturday was a football day for the guys. I didn’t really care much about either game (passively rooting for Denver) and I spent most of the day cleaning and cooking. Nick and I did run out between games to run a few errands.

I got to wear my new boots and put them to good use in the snow. Check out those crazy icicles!

On the way home we put in another workout at the gym – this time a little longer run and the second half of the circuit program. Home again, we had family smoothies!

Family Smoothies

One for Mom, Dad, Mack and even one for Grandpa who is staying with us for a bit. Spencer had some too but his little sippy cup didn’t match my picture ;) Just a quick blend of Peach Chobani, Pineapple, Raspberries, Milk and a handful of spinach. Mmmm delicious and energizing.

If you follow me on Facebook, then you already know that I made an amazing lasagna this weekend. That was also on Saturday and my father-in-law gave me the best compliment by going back for seconds, thirds, even fourths!

Sunday was another football day. Being from Seattle, we were of course cursing our team for the first half, then biting our nails for the second and then totally shocked when even after coming back from a 20+ deficit, we lost to a field goal.

Falcons(yes Falcons is spelled wrong – it’s an inside joke ;) )

Yet another trip to Planet Fitness, we watched the first quarter of the Patriots game while putting in our miles on the treadmill and then a bit of weight lifting (longer run, full circuit).

While we were out exercising, I had the makings for Buffalo Chicken Burgers in the crock pot doing its thing. The recipe is one of several healthy recipes found in my cookbook, Know Your Line Up – finger foods to get your team of fan from the fantasy draft to the Superbowl. The burgers were a perfect meal to enjoy after the game.

Speaking of, my cookbook was featured on The Examiner yesterday – check it out and order your copy in time for a (healthier) Superbowl party.

Since I know we’re all busy, off on our own adventures and errands over the weekends, here’s a few things you may have missed:

  1. Lessons from the Coffee House – the latest issue from my bi-weekly business column, this time I’m talking about communication and it applies to so much more than the work place. Use these tips in your marriage or even just talking with friends. It’s about giving and receiving criticism effectively.
  2. Small Town USA – Everett: explore another small town – the history, as well as the places to eat, drink and explore.

And now it’s Monday and we’re all headed back to work. I’m actually on the train as we speak (write/read), it is totally crowded and feels more like a city bus than my portable office as it usually does. Once I get to work, I can set up shop at my real desk. Did you know it is National Clean Your Desk Day? Well, now you do…

What were you up to this weekend? Do you have snow where you live?
