This weekend we were up to all kind of crazy things.
I spent my Friday morning working from home before heading out for a few errands. Fortunately I only had one real errand and a bunch of other fun things. One of my “errands” was actually to get a facial with my friend Clarissa (check out my post tomorrow for a fun, related giveaway). After my facial and then getting my real errand of driving to Salt Lake and back to Ogden it was time to get to my main mission for the weekend: furniture!
I hit up this funny little antique shop in Ogden – Abby’s. Boy you certainly can’t judge a book by it’s cover on this one.
The outside of the store looks totally lame but inside there was a treasure trove of goodies. Like this cool little nautical-esque something or other. Yes, I’m sure that is the scientific name..
I have no idea where or what I would use that for in my house but I am really in love with the look and feel of it. Post-antiquing it was time to meet up with Nick for what has quickly become our Friday night routine. We met for drinks and pizza at Brewskis on 25th.
That’s their house salad with a Polygamy Porter in the background. Below is Brewski’s take on a “Hawaiian” pizza – cubed ham, onion, green peppers and pineapples. I doubt that I’ve ever mentioned this but cooked green peppers give me headaches. I thought of that the instant I saw the pizza but I was lured in for “just a piece” and then “just one more” and ended up with a whopping headache only a half hour later. Serves me right. Healthy? No. Great time with Nick? Yes.
Another part of our Friday night routine? Taking the kids to Hastings to pick out books and rent a movie. Spencer-magoo-ster was especially enjoying checking out the letter book/blocks they had on display.
What can I say, we’re pretty easy going on Friday nights. A little popcorn and maybe a glass of wine – that’s all I need to wind down from the work week.
Saturday we continued on our furniture quest, only this time I had both boys and Nick was at work (a rare occurrence on a weekend). Let me tell you, shopping for house wares with two young boys… I don’t recommend it. Eventually, they both passed out in the backseat but as a parent and the only one capable of driving the car, that wasn’t really an option for me
I was incredibly successful though. On my list: nightstands, curtain panels and a few things for Mack’s bathroom. I ended up with a bit extra when I stumbled across this awesome quilt which I think really brings our bedroom look together. And I love the nightstands I found! Love them!
We still have a bit of clutter that needs to be put away and I’m also still on the hunt for some bedside table lamps – but things are definitely coming together!
Saturday wasn’t all work though, we were also lucky enough to get to check out one of Ogden’s newest/not yet bars: Alleged. We ran into a few friends and got to see the completed interior space before they get all set up and open to the public. It was very cool you guys and I can’t wait to hang out here when they get it all up and running.
Sunday… let’s see. Hmm. Well there was this thing..
Oh right, it was the Superbowl! Geesh this funny state of Utah could have cared less that there was a big game going on. I mean – “who’s playing?” “when is it again” “I thought football was already over” – these are the comments I’ve heard over the past few weeks leading up to the game. We had a party over at our house but it was seriously not any kind of football party we’ve ever had before. We had fun, that’s for sure. But I saw maybe ten minutes of actually playing time. I was too busy chatting and hanging out.
So, what are the highlights from my perspective…
The food was very good. I of course had to make food from my cookbook – oatmeal turkey meatballs, boneless buffalo chicken bites, and game day guacamole. We also had chips and salsa, hummus and some veggies. I forgot to take pictures during our actual party (and the bad-blogger award goes to…) so here are some photos directly from the cookbook.
And let’s see, what else was memorable? Oh I know, that the power went out for nearly a half hour.
Ha! All that planning and money spent on the Superbowl – on the game itself, the location, the prep, on the advertising for, advertising during, and the players themselves – all that planning and what is that I’ll remember about this year’s game? The power going out. Yeah, pretty sure that’s not what they want to be remembered for. Too bad, too sad ‘cause that’s what we’ve got! Certainly I’m not the only one… What will you remember most about the Superbowl?
A couple things:
- Don’t forget to check back tomorrow for a giveaway post!
- I’ll be posting our marathon training recap later this week so stay tuned for an update on our miles and what we’re eating to fuel our way
- I have less than 20 copies of my cookbook available. If you were thinking about placing an order, delay no more! I’m running out quick! Email me at thefamilypracticeblog@gmail.com for ordering info or click on the link to the right “Know Your Line Up”
Today I’m staying home with Mack – he’s not feeling well. Right now he’s sleeping but we’ll be making a trip to the doctor’s office once he’s awake again. And tonight, I’m looking forward to meeting up with the Junior League gals for our monthly meeting – this one is a special get together at Weber State Univ for a presentation by the library curator on the history of the league here in Ogden.
Happy Tuesday! See ya tomorrow!

Poligamy Porter? Hahaha! Your game day food looks yummy!
The picture on the label is priceless: http://www.wasatchbeers.com/polygporter.html
One of my favorite beers in the whole state!
